British Standards
The relevant British Standard is BS661210:2018 Graduated compression hosiery, anti-embolism hosiery and graduated support hosiery - Specification, to which definitive reference should be made. The standard allows the meaurement of compression exerted by compression hosiery, and brings together requirements from the former British Standards BS6612, BS7672, and BS7563.
The standard is based on the use of the HATRA Hose Presure Tester Mk 2, which comprises a simulated leg form and a measurement head with the form size adjustable to accommodate a range of standard girth sizes. In these methods, the garment is stretched simultaneously lengthways and widthways on the former and the compression calculated by bringing the measurement head force element into contact with the garment.
