About Us
The prototype HATRA Hose Pressure Tester was developed by Derek Peat in the 1970s while working at the Hosiery and Allied Trades Research Association in Nottingham, England. The instrument was designed to provide a standard method for testing of compression hosiery.
In the early 1980s Derek began the Segar Design business to sell HATRA Hose Pressure Testers commercially with the Mk2 HATRA Hose Pressure Tester. This was the instrument specified in the three British Standards being developed at the time: BS6612, BS7672, and BS7563 (now superceded by BS661210).
Segar Design further developed the instrument as the Mk2A HATRA tester, which was sold worldwide from the early 1990s. The Mk2A tester worked on the same principle and with the same leg profiles as the Mk2 tester. It also allowed custom made leg profiles to be easily added to the tester, as well as easing the loading of the garment onto the tester.
Segar Technology was founded in 2008 as the successor business to Segar Design under the direction of Derek's son. The Mk2A HATRA tester has been further developed as the HATRA Mk2A+. This tester features a modified form that reduces the need for manipulation of the garment along the form during loading of the garment. This is designed to improve consistency in garment positioning on the form and hence improve the consistency of test results.
Segar Technology also offers a worldwide testing service for compression hosiery based on the current British Standard. In addition it offers support and servicing for existing HATRA testers.
